She was nourished every day by the Divine Attendant,
watered with sweet heavenly dew,
and her heart was filled with gratitude.
Silently, she vowed:
“One day, I shall repay this kindness with my tears.”

每日由神瑛侍者以甘露澆灌,
心中充滿感念。
她默默發誓:
「將來若有一日,我必還淚報恩。」


2. 女媧補天

In heaven, the Water God and the Fire God quarreled without end.
One day their conflict grew so fierce that they struck the firmament,
breaking a hole in the sky and unleashing floods upon the earth.

To mend the heavens, Nüwa gathered many stones
and refined them in sacred fire for the great work.
After being refined, the stones all gained spirit.

As thirty-six thousand five hundred stones rose to mend the sky,
one extraordinary stone was left unused.
She said, “Though you are already an extraordinary stone, I must let you go.”
She cast it down to the Great Wilderness Mountain,
where it lay silent, gazing at the clouds,
watching years turn to centuries, seas into mulberry fields.

They were discussing the Divine Attendant’s descent into the mortal world.

Hearing this, my heart stirred.
“May I go too?” I asked softly.

The monk said:
“You are just a stone. You have no feelings. Why do you wish to go to the mortal world?”

I answered:
“I was once refined by Nüwa’s sacred fire. I have feelings now.
But when she mended the sky, I was the last one left unused, cast away and forgotten.”

The Taoist said:
“Ah! So you are the very stone—the one left behind after the mending of heaven!”

From that moment, I was no longer just a stone,
nor merely an extraordinary stone
I became the stone, the Divine Jade, entrusted with a destiny beyond the heavens.

有一天,兩位旅人到來——一僧一道。
他們正在討論神瑛侍者下凡的事。

我聽見了,心中一動,便問:
「我可以一起去嗎?」

僧人說:
「你只是一塊石頭,沒有感覺。為什麼想要去人間呢?」

I became the jade worn upon Baoyu’s chest,
sharing every breath, every fate,
beginning a life of joys and sorrows in the mortal world.

於是,我與神瑛侍者一同下凡,
取名賈寶玉。
絳珠草也來到人間——化為林黛玉。

我成為掛在寶玉胸前的玉佩,
與他一同呼吸、共命運,
